Voice of America: December 6, – Protesters will denounce government corruption
In Tirana, the Democratic Party led by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha announced that it will not change plans to hold a protest rally near the government headquarters on Dêshmorët e Kombit boulevard on December 6, the same day as in the Albanian capital the high-level meeting of the European Union and the Western Balkans will be held.
The decision was announced by Mr. Berisha, a day after the State Police rejected the opposition's request to hold a protest near the prime minister's office, on the grounds that this location is within the security perimeter of the high-level meeting of European and regional leaders. According to the police, organizing a protest in this area poses a risk to national security.
The police emphasized that they are ready to guarantee the success of any gathering, which will be held outside the security perimeter of the high-level meeting. Within the security perimeter for the law enforcement forces are Mother Teresa Square, Dëshmorët e Kombit promenade and several streets in the center of the capital.
Mr. Berisha asserted that with this refusal, the police are violating the Constitution, as he said, protesters are only required by law to notify the police of their activity.
Mr. Berisha said that the protesters will denounce the corruption and authoritarianism of Prime Minister Edi Rama, and the protest with the motto "We love Albania as Europe" will in no case harm the safety of European friends participating in the high-level meeting./VOA/
