EU Ambassador warns against ‘gold passports’: A member country was sued last week

EU Ambassador to Albania Christiane Hohmann said today the Council of Europe has been clear in its policy against the “gold passports”, saying a member country was sued in a court of law for violation.

“I think the report is quite clear. Of course, EU respects the sovereignty of any country to decide its schemes for granting citizenship”, said Hohmann.

“I believe this kind of scheme would put into evidence a number of risks and dangers that are clearly expressed in the report. In March, EU requested from all its members to end the schemes of giving passports in this way. Last week, a member country was sued for the infringement of the disposition”.
