Illyria, one of the most ancient territories of the Balkans,
is mentioned several times in the Bible,highlighting its importance in the history of the ancient world.
In Romans 15:19, the apostle Paul
speaks of the proclamation of the Gospel as far as Illyria:
“As far as the regions around,
including Illyria, I have preached the gospel of Christ.”
The mention of Illyria in the New Testament indicates that this area was well-known and had an important role in the ancient region.
Similarly, in 2 Timothy 4:10, Paul says:
“We had gone as far as Illyria, and now I am returning.”
